now as we all know, that little tab for 'windows experience index' rates your system on various things from 1.0 to 7.9

Why they picked 7.9? who knows.. but there you go :) So.. i have decided to place apon myself the task of acheiving the all-honoured 7.9 index...

The major let down is usually primary disk speed, unless you've got a raptor or a ramdisk (or a sas drive or a SCSI one) you're unlikely to hit that 7.9. But there are... ways... lets watch the amusing situation which comes out of this...

Sorry to bring some facts to the case... The ratings were designed to be both exponential and future developed. Idea was that a 3.3 in windows vista is a 3.3 in win 7 and a 3.3 further on. As upgrades are made to hardware etc, they will increase the 'top bound' of the rating to compensate for what the standard is now. That way you might get some use out of the benchmark. Games use it effectively and I think it's a good thing to be able to tell mum and dad: You're ram is crap, get some new stuff to make your computer faster.

God damn disk, after a monster of tweaks and overclocks, to get that i already had to use a striped raid and the nice riskyness that imposes on the O/S partition :) So.. NEARLY there

Same system, just 'supercharged' lol
quad core phenon II running at 3.4ghz
8gb ram
4850 overclocked to space
primary drive = 2x 250gb sata seagates in stripe

so its nothing special except for the cooling equipment on the kit, same puter ive had since the nov 08 megastorms - shows you what optimising some stuff and overclocking can do

well I cant beat the HDD spec as I am the same so you must need a SATA RAID controller with liek... Cache to improve the score
